For My Health!

For My Health! is an initiative that represents a partnership between ImpactBC and the Canadian Mental Health Association, BC Division. It’s a holistic health screening program that integrates both cardiovascular risk factors with risk of depression and anxiety and builds on the existing experience of both organizations in the partnership:  ImpactBC’s experience with “hearts@work” and CMHA’s “Beyond the Blues” screening program.

ImpactBC received a grant from the Public Health Agency of Canada under their Innovation Strategy to achieve healthier weights in Canada’s communities program. We have signed a one year contribution agreement to develop the For My Health! project in the forestry industry in northern BC.

Project goal

  • To create supportive workplaces for Canadians (focusing primarily on forestry sector workers in northern BC) to achieve healthy weights. The inclusion of health professional training, connections to the Peer
  • Coaching and Bounce Back programs, and its indirect effect on the families of the workers engaged in the project will see some crossover in building healthier conditions in rural communities to combat obesity and achieve healthy weights.

Objectives

  • To prevent and reduce the incidence of obesity in forestry sector employees in Northern BC by encouraging and supporting employees to make positive lifestyle changes through participation in For My Health! and linking them to community-based programs for self-management support
  • To increase the capacity of forestry sector employers in Northern BC to promote healthy weights in the workplace by adapting the For My Health! Initiative for delivery in the forestry sector and using the findings of the project evaluation to help inform.

Our role

This grant will allow us to develop and shape the For My Health! project as a potential model for other Health Authorities and partners around BC as a prevention initiative to achieve healthier communities and healthier worksites. We will work in collaboration with the Men’s Health initiative of Northern Health, UNBC, SHARP,a union and management council dedicated to improving health in forestry worksites and with other community stakeholders to create an integrated community- based model which will support the primary care transformations and IPCC work that is developing in the North.
