Vancouver Island Health Authority Mental Health and Addiction Services

Impact has been invited by Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) Mental Health and Addiction Services (MHAS) to co-develop and test change initiatives focused on improving service quality and patient and provider experience with Mental Health and Addiction Services in the South Island at a cost that aligns with the current fiscal restraints.

The Aim of ImpactBC's work is to build capacity within VIHA MHAS leaders,  beginning with South Island to design and implement these change initiatives using Quality Improvement Methodology tools and techniques

This work is now being expanded for MHAS across Vancouver Island.

Our Role

ImpactBC is providing the following services to VIHA for this initiative:

  • Coaching and facilitating improvement teams in a learning community, including learning sessions
  • Support managers/leaders of the different service areas so they develop the capacity to lead and sustain improvement initiatives
  • Expertise in improvement methodology
  • Tools to help with tracking of measures and reporting of progress towards the improvement aims
  • Involving patients on the improvement teams
  • Linkages and liaise with national and international experts on quality improvement projects
  • Spread to other georgraphic locations within VIHA
